Chat module is missing in the "Mandeep world"

You have a lot of cool new products but a chat module connected to the helpdesk is missing. This could enable to bring the chats direct into helpdesk. Please, vote for this?

Wow. Lots of interest already. We already have a prototype that we developed a while ago and it has many interesting features.

Perhaps, now would be a good time to ask the community for must have features. Please feel free to list any features that you would like to see in an upcoming chat module.

The winner of DNN Contest was a chat module http://www.dnnsoftware.com/community-blog/cid/155333/and-the-winner-is. I used that for a while but there was no support and it stopped working somewhere between DNN 803 and 804. That module was awesome!

my ideas for chat:
1. for me the main feature on the chat is to somehow help even if nobody is available. This could be for example to be connected to the knowledge base module, if somebody ask "can I pay with paypal" it should answer from the knowledge base based on a available answer "We accept paypal...".

2. I can think about a chat combined with forms to take orders (or link somebody in the order form process).

3. the chat should be able to tell (or popup) the news, for example if I write to my customer an answer in a ticket he should see automatically the answer in the chat as soon he logs in or visits the page.

4. a pro active chat should be able to give messages on specific pages (for example on pricing page it should say "Hello, call us on xxx") or specific events

5. chat should be able to follow a person and save history from previous chats

Nice feature list!
I hoped it would simply have an embed code to stick into articles (html content) along side an embedded video for example.

Any update on this? Do you still have a prototype and plans to release a chat module? Thanks! -Sarai

There are no plans to release our own Live Chat module. There are many existing options that are readily available with extensive feature sets. There are many free options as well such as https://www.tawk.to/ which we use on our site. It's extremely hard to justify the development cost for something that is already available, works great, and has no cost.

We do have plans to release an integration module with Tawk so it's super easy to setup in DNN. Would you like us to integrate with any other solution?

In a world with increasing worries about privacy (GDPR) it is a bad idea to outsource this kind of communication. If there was a proper on premise solution I will be ready to buy it.

We'll be happy to create a module that is self hosted if the community is willing to sponsor the development. There is just not enough demand in DNN Market to justify the development cost for such module.

Let us know here if you're willing to sponsor the development.

How many people are interested in sponsoring development? Based on that number and the cost I think that those on this thread to make a decision.
