Facebook Comment Support in Social Modules

In light of the support for facebook comments in platforms like Wordpress (Like in this example), I would love to see support for this in the modules here that employ social engagement. Not only would it produce a nice touch, but would be a convenience for users as well; think of how many users already have Facebook? And if they are logged into the portal via their Facebook credentials, then, no need for yet another login. Also, the reduction of spam is another thing I can think of as well. Tell us what you all think.

There are many reasons why you don't want this and there are many people who think that Facebook is an evil company, I am one of those. As long as the functionality Katherine asks for can be switched off I agree, otherwise this would mean the end of the module for me.

Mariette,
I would agree with you that there are many reasons why we don't want to do this as well but I won't go as far as calling Facebook evil :)

Any time you introduce 3rd party integration, you're vulnerable to changes, downtime, and outright discontinuation of the service. Facebook, in particular, has a history of changing and discontinuing its services via API. In the past, Live Blog and other modules were able to push updates to Facebook directly using vendor (our) app; this later changed to individual apps for each company and Live Social/Library was brought in. With the recent Facebook scandal, they've changed many other permissions and cause an enormous amount of work for us to maintain integration.

Long story short; it's not a good idea. But if you look at the other side, it does add value as Katherine mentioned above.

We'll keep this idea open for community to vote on. Rest assured, if it's ever implemented, it will be an optional feature similar to how you can use Disqus Comments within Live Blog/Live Articles instead of the built-in comments.
