Multistore

A common scenario in ecommerce is a multistore setup.

This means that there is a main portal where all products are stored.
Each portal can be branded seperately.

All other options are configurable on portal level. Like shipping, promotions, tax etc.

This way, you can have an outlet brand that has different prices or free shipping thanks to promotions

You could currently do Multistore w/LSF; but each store is independently configured and maintained.

I remember we talked about "Master-Slave" stores in Beta Testing.

This will definitely be added to LSF; we just need to draft the requirements. My biggest concern is that if you have stores across multiple portals then only a Superuser can manage them. We don't want to compromise the (unique site / portal) model within DNN. Or perhaps only a superuser can setup such linking/integration between multiple stores.

The original thread refers to how nopCommerce does Multi Store. Is that still the preferred approach? If so, I'll look into it and add requirements here.

The most important thing is that the vendor who has 6 stores and needs to change the description of a TV, won't need to change that on 6 places.

I surely recommend to take another look at NopCommmerce. Their approach is quite simple and generic. NopCommmerce does not have multiple portals but let's you create stores. And products can be connnected to stores. Languages can also be connected (or limited) to stores for instance. Same goes for shipping methods, promotions etc.

It's quite elegant and light. But it is not DNN so not a CMS and the community does not have the professional level like DNN.
