I would like to use something like this. The problem is that there needs to be a layer for each letter in the text, and the spacing of the letters is a bit tedious to set up. My question: is there a way to construct this easily? Thanks.

Yes, thanks. I have done that. What I want to do is to replace the animated text that slides up one character at a time. Are there any guidelines on how to do that? It looks like I adjust the left position of each letter. There isn't the same spacing and it seems to depend on the preceding lettter, and I haven't quite figured that part out. Is there a table somewhere that tells the width of each letter, or must I figure that out?
Any help would be appreciated.
